About
I'm so glad you're here.
First, why the name b. bennet afield? Well, b. is what people call me – short for Brian. Bennet is my middle name, my grandfather's name, and my son's name. Three generations. Afield is where I want to be – camera in hand, rooted in the Pacific Northwest but drawn to travel the world.
I've loved photography for as long as I can remember. My goal is to capture something beautiful, and hopefully a particular take on a subject that you haven't seen before. I'm drawn to the natural world – light on water, open landscapes, the stillness of a place with no one in it – but I'm equally fascinated by architecture and the way a building can surprise you when you find the right angle. You can explore the work by location, or browse the collections: Nature, Water, Minimalist, and Built.
I tend toward a modern, restrained aesthetic. Softened color, balanced light, images that don't shout. I'm less interested in the expected view of a place and more interested in the mood of it – the texture, the stillness, the moment just before or after the obvious shot. My hope is that these images bring something calm and considered into the spaces where they live. That they bring you a little joy, and maybe a nudge to get out and see more of the world yourself.
Cheers,
b.
